Shop Classes

September 20, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Shop Classes are held in the evenings and cycle through 5 different topics. Every 5 weeks, we take one week off and if there is not a large attendance, we can cater the class to you. To register for a class, simply email colatownbikecollective@gmail.com and we will give you the most current schedule and sign you up! Classes are at no charge, but if you are able, we do ask for a suggested donation of $20 / class (or whatever you can spare). Donations allow us to resupply the shop, pay our rent, keep the lights on, and continue to be a service to the community. Donations accepted through our PayPal account (colatownbikecollective@gmail.com) or through our square app at the shop.
A.B.Cs of bike maintenance
Learn how to properly maintain your bike, change a flat, adjust brakes, and take care of your drivetrain.

Brakes class

Learn how to properly adjust different brake systems. Starting from installation all the way through fine tuning.

Shifters and Derailleurs class

This class will focus on different shifting systems, and like the brake class will start with installation and go all the way through fine tuning.

Headsets, Bottom Brackets and Hubs class

This class focuses on all the spinny parts. All three systems are very similar in how they work. We will show you how best to service each. We will tear down a headset and bottom bracket, and touch on how to rebuild a hub.

Shop Etiquette class

This is a class largely for those who would like to volunteer at the collective. We have a very diverse group of individuals from many different backgrounds and this class will touch on what is to be expected. Also covered in this class is how to clean up, put tools back, etc. when done, what is expected of volunteers, and what the Collective needs from everyone.
